KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 6): Two new Covid-19 clusters — Batu in Perak and Ramai-Ramai in Sabah — have been detected with a total of 27 infections.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the Batu Cluster was identified post Covid-19 screening tests among staff and family members of a detention camp in Taiping.

“Seven persons tested positive for Covid-19 on Oct 5 and they were admitted to the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital (in Ipoh),” Dr Noor Hisham said in a televised media briefing.

The seven were among 860 people that have been screened as of noon today. A total of 182 individuals tested negative for the virus and the remaining 671 are still awaiting their results.

As for the Ramai-Ramai Cluster, Dr Noor Hisham said it was identified in Sandakan.

Twenty individuals, all of them Malaysians, tested positive for Covid-19 from 166 individuals who were screened.

The index case is a bus driver who displayed fever and sore throat symptoms from Sept 27. The patient tested positive on Oct 3 and has been admitted to Dutchess of Kent Hospital in Sandakan.

Dr Noor Hisham said the cause of infections for both new clusters is still under investigation.

Besides the two clusters, seven active clusters recorded new cases today, including Tembok (394 cases), Bangau-Bangau (30), Jalan Meru (15), Bah Sintok (three), Benteng PK (two), Selasih (one) and Embun (one).

Malaysia reported an all-time record high of 691 new Covid-19 cases today, bringing total cases to 13,504.
