PETALING JAYA (Oct 6): Tropicana Corp Bhd has signed a hotel management agreement with Marriott International to build a 270-key five-star hotel at its mixed development in Langkawi, Tropicana Cenang, on Thursday (Oct 6).

Dubbed Sheraton Langkawi Resort and Spa, the hotel building will have a gross development value (GDV) of RM352 million. It is part of the 5.3-acre Tropicana Cenang development, which fronts Pantai Cenang and offers residential, hospitality and commercial components with a total GDV of RM1.4 billion.

With the official signing ceremony concluded at Tropicana’s corporate office here on Thursday, Sheraton Langkawi Resort and Spa will be Tropicana’s third hotel collaboration with Marriott, following W Kuala Lumpur and Courtyard by Marriott Penang. The new hotel is expected to welcome guests by 2029/2030. 

“Building on Tropicana’s long-standing and fruitful partnership with Marriott International, we are excited to develop this five-star Sheraton Langkawi Resort and Spa at Pantai Cenang’s beachfront. Leveraging on the location and increasing tourism footfall in Langkawi, we are confident that this 270-key hotel will draw a lot of interest from tourists,” said Tropicana Corp Bhd group managing director Dion Tan during the signing ceremony.

Facilities in the hotel will include a spa, swimming and wading pool, fitness centre and a Kid’s Club. Additionally, the hotel offers event spaces such as a 4,305 sq ft ballroom, meeting rooms and pre-function areas.

Besides the hotel, developments in Tropicana Cenang include the 39-storey Assana Serviced Suites comprising 831 serviced suites, which was launched in September 2021 and has a current take-up rate of over 50%, as well as an upcoming residential development called Merissa Serviced Suites, with further details forthcoming.

Once opened, Sheraton Langkawi Resort and Spa expects to offer urban conveniences, skyline views of the surrounding and Langkawi’s landscape.”

Amenities near Tropicana Cenang include the Cenang Mall, ZON Duty-Free, Perdana Quay Eco Marine Park, Sky Bridge, Langkawi Wildlife Park, Underwater World Langkawi and local night markets. The Langkawi International Airport is also 9km away from the development.
