KUALA LUMPUR (March 4): Transport Minister Anthony Loke has extended the terms of Datuk Mah Weng Kwai, Datuk Seri Long See Wool and Datuk Fauziah Yaacob as commissioners of the Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mavcom) by another three years.

In a statement today, Mavcom said the new terms start from March 1.

"Mavcom and its commissioners will continue to uphold its mandate as an independent, self-funded entity to regulate economic and commercial matters related to civil aviation in Malaysia, while championing consumer rights in the aviation sector," it added.

The extension comes amid a The Malaysian Reserve report on Feb 28, quoting sources, that the aviation regulator, set up on March 1, 2016, might be disbanded as part of the government’s move to control expenditure, while regaining control over key decisions pertaining to the aviation industry.
