KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 17): With 14-day Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) placed on its foreign workers' dormitories in Meru, Klang, the world's largest rubber glove manufacturer Top Glove Corp Bhd has said it affects about 5,700 of its workers, not 13,190 as reported.

Top Glove clarified that the EMCO, which takes place from today until Nov 30, impacts about 27% of its total workforce of 21,000, according to a statement today.

"Our factories in Meru, Klang continue to operate with reduced capacity and workers not under EMCO are working under strict SOPs (standard operating procedures) in alignment with guidelines from the Ministry of Health," said Top Glove.

The group again reiterated that the majority of the affected workers were asymptomatic, and did not have fever or any sickness.

Yesterday, Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob was reported to have said that the dormitory in question would be placed under a 14-day EMCO until Nov 30, after 215 Covid-19 cases were reported there.

Accordingly, shares in Top Glove slipped to an intraday low of RM6.15, before they pared losses and settled at RM6.65 at noon break today, with some 95.34 million shares traded. The rubber glove maker is now valued at RM54.5 billion.
