KUALA LUMPUR (March 17): Top Glove Corp Bhd has claimed trial against charges of failure to provide Labour Department (JTK)-certified accommodations, and the matter has been set for another mention on April 28.

In a statement today, the glove maker said it was present at the Ipoh Sessions Court yesterday for the first case mention in relation to an inspection by JTK in November last year under the Workers’ Minimum Standards of Housing and Amenities Act 1990 (Act 446).

“Top Glove wishes to assure its stakeholders that it remains highly committed to ensuring high quality welfare, health, working conditions, and living accommodation for its workforce.

“The company has also set out current and mid-term plans to continuously improve the standard of the various types of accommodation it provides to its workers,” it said.

Yesterday, the rubber glove maker was charged with 10 counts of failing to provide JTK-certified workers’ accommodations.

The company pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Top Glove was alleged to have provided its foreign workers with accommodations that were not certified with a certificate of accommodation from the JTK director-general as required under Section 24D(1) of Act 446.

The offences were allegedly committed at 10 different accommodations at Pusat Perdagangan Tasek Mutiara, Ipoh, Perak between 9am and 1.30pm on Nov 26, 2020.

At noon break, Top Glove shares were two sen or 0.38% lower at RM5.22, giving a market capitalisation of RM42.82 billion.
