SEPANG (Jan 8): AirAsia Bhd shareholders had today approved the planned AirAsia Bhd-AirAsia Group Bhd (AAGB) share exchange under the budget airline's reorganisation.

The reorganisation will see AAGB assuming AirAsia Bhd's listing status on Bursa Malaysia. According to AirAsia Bhd's extraordinary general meeting (EGM) and court-convened meeting notices, the reorganisation involves the exchange of 3.34 billion existing AirAsia Bhd shares for new AAGB shares on a one-for-one basis.

Speaking at a press conference after AirAsia Bhd's EGM and court-convened meeting here today, AirAsia group CEO Tan Sri Tony Fernandes said the reorganisation marked another step forward towards the group's aim of creating a single holding company within the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) region.

Via Twitter, Fernandes said: "Big day for me and AirAsia." He said AirAsia shareholders' approval on the reorganisation is what he has been hoping for a while.

"(The approval) Gives me big drive," he said.
