SHARES on the local bourse extended the gains made last Friday, bolstered by Wall Street’s positive close.

Sentiment remained upbeat even though European markets opened weaker on Monday afternoon, our time.

The FBM KLCI added nearly 15 points to close at 1,803. Trading was relatively active with 2.05 billion shares changing hands.

Market breadth was also broadly positive with gainers outweighing losers by 569 to 305 while 261 counters were unchanged.

My portfolio value rose strongly by 1.58% to RM103,779, outperforming the FBM KLCI’s 0.83% advance.

Total returns for the portfolio continued to recover, rising from last Friday’s 2.2% to 3.8%.

The portfolio started on 8 July 2014 with a capital of RM100,000. Since then, it has outperformed the FBM KLCI by 8.5%.

Total gains currently stand at RM 3,779.

On Monday, there were only two losers in my portfolio, namely SMPC Corporation Bhd (-3.3%) and Success Transformer Corporation Bhd (-1.1%).

The rest of the stocks in my portfolio performed well. Notably, KSL Holdings Bhd rebounded strongly following the recent selloff, gaining 5.1% to close at RM4.10.

In fact, all the stocks that I acquired last Friday performed well. Willowglen MSC Bhd leads the list, rising some 3.2% to close at 81 sen.
