SHARES on the local stock market closed in the red on Friday after sustaining five days of consecutive losses.

Although Asian shares edged down on Friday, European stocks headed for a third weekly gain as companies posted earnings that beat estimates.

The closely watched Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 69.94 points to close at a high of 17,554.47 on Thursday, on indications that the European Central Bank would take more policy action if needed to boost the struggling euro zone economy.

My portfolio value bucked the FBM KLCI’S downtrend on Friday, with total returns increasing by 0.92% to RM 107,002.

The portfolio started on 8 July 2014 with a capital of RM100,000. Since then, it has outperformed the FBM KLCI by 10.6%, and has registered an annualised return of 20.8%.

Total profits currently stand at RM 7,002.

The gainers for the portfolio on Thursday were Crescendo (+4.4%) and Willowglen MSC (+2.9%).The stocks that lost momentum were KSL (-0.2%), Sunway (-0.3%), and HIL Industries (-3.0%).

I kept the portfolio unchanged on Friday.
