KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 2): Former 1Malaysia Development Bhd chief executive officer Datuk Shahrol Azral Ibrahim Halmi will return to the witness dock today, possibly for his last day of cross-examination by the defence team.

Defence counsel Wan Aizuddin Wan Mohammed indicated to the judge yesterday that he planned to cross-examine Shahrol for at least another two hours today, covering the tail-end of the latter's time in 1MDB, when he was already transferred to Pemandu but still sits on the state fund's board as one of the directors.

Then, lead defence counsel Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah may takeover later today to wrap-up the defence team's cross-examination on Shahrol.

Yesterday, Shahrol admitted to the court that he had signed and approved a US$2 billion refinancing agreement with Deutsche Bank in 2014, thinking it was for US$1 billion.

Shahrol further conceded that he never questioned the fundraising efforts, and only signed the approvals based on the directors’ circular resolutions.

In the 1MDB-Tanore trial, Najib is facing four counts of abuse of power for using his position as prime minister, finance minister and 1MDB board of advisers’ chairman to receive gratification worth RM2.28 billion.
