KUALA LUMPUR: Utility giant Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) has denied a claim going viral on social media that its board of directors had received a directive from the government to raise electricity tariff by 30%.

TNB said electricity tariff is determined by the Energy Commission.

In a statement yesterday, TNB deemed the claim, supposedly written by a TNB employee, to be “false and baseless”.

It added that the name appeared in the message is not an employee of the group and urged the public to ignore the message and not to share it.
