KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Insider (TMI) saw an increase in its readership for the first quarter of the year, drawing 1.012 million unique visitors in March and crossing the million mark for the first time.

The news portal, which was bought over by The Edge Media Group last year, is now the third most visited news-information website in the country. TMI is behind Malaysiakini and The Star Online, which recorded 1.124 million and 1.107 million unique visitors in March respectively, but is quickly closing the gap.

TMI was 24% behind the leader in January, but the latest comScore Media Metrix report showed that the website is gaining ground on the leaders as it is only 10% behind Malaysiakini and 8% behind The Star Online.

Both Malaysiakini and The Star Online recorded a decrease in monthly unique visitors, but TMI recorded an increase of more than 6% in its readership from January to March.
