KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 23): Telecommunication giant Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM) said it will stay the course with its broadband expansion plan, in order to support rural broadband development plan, as announced in the Budget 2016.

In a statement today, the group chief executive officer, Tan Sri Zamzamzairani Mohd Isa, said TM will continue the High Speed Broadband Project 2 (HSBB2) and the Sub-Urban Broadband Project (SUBB) expansion plans, as well as support the newly-announced rural broadband development plans.

“We commend the Government on the Budget 2016 that puts the interests of the Malaysian people and the stable, sustainable development of the nation, clearly as priorities,” he said, adding that TM fully supports the Goods and Services Tax rebates for prepaid mobile telecommunication services.

Zamzamzairani said TM has the capabilities and is well-placed to help drive the overall entrepreneurship and innovation ecosystems, especially for Small Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and young entrepreneurs.

“We applaud the Government’s emphasis in key economic sectors, such as education, agriculture, healthcare and the mega domestic projects, of which TM will play a major role to fulfill the ICT and communication needs,” he said.

“In conclusion, we believe this budget has been well thought through and will benefit all Malaysians. It is tailored to make life and business easier, and as always, TM will do our best to help realise these objectives, for a better Malaysia,” Zamzamzairani added.
