KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 12): Teck Guan Perdana Bhd, which saw its share price surge by 29.52% to hit its one year high today, was slapped with an Unusual Market Activity (UMA) by Bursa Malaysia.

The regulator has requested the palm oil players to discount any rumours or news that could contributed to the sharp rise in its share price, according to a statement posted on the company's website.

"We draw your attention to the sharp rise in price of your company's shares today," Bursa said, advising investors to take note of the company's reply to the above UMA query.

The uptrend trajectory began on Sept 22, which saw the stock climb as much as 66 sen or 94.3% to close at RM1.36 today, from 70 sen.

The sharp rise in share price has added 24.86 million or 88.56% to Teck Guan's market value to RM52.93 million, from RM28.07 million on Sept 22.

Teck Guan is principally engaged in producing and trading of cocoa butter and cocoa powder products.

According to the company's filing on Sept 25, Teck Guan returned to the black with a net profit of RM2.59 million or 6.45 sen per share in its second financial quarter ended July 31, 2015 (2QFY16), due to favourable foreign exchange rate between ringgit and US dollar.

It recorded a net loss of RM1.86 million last year.

Quarterly revenue grew 44.7% on-year to RM66.09 million from RM45.69 million last year, underpinned by increase in sales volume in the quarter under review.

For the cumulative six months (6MFY16), its net profit surged 184.3% to RM5.43 million, versus RM1.91 million in last corresponding period.

This is despite revenue for the period having declined 6% to RM120.3 million, from RM127.92 million last year.
