KUALA LUMPUR (June 13): Media Prima Bhd has appointed Datuk Syed Hussian Syed Junid (pictured) as group chairman from July 1, replacing Datuk Mohd Nasir Ahmad, whose tenure ends on June 30.

To ensure a smooth transition, Syed Hussian will begin his appointment to Media Prima's board of directors as independent non-executive director and group chairman-designate effective immediately.

In a statement today, Media Prima said Mohd Nasir had informed the board of his intention to step down and resign to focus on his other directorial commitments.

He was first appointed as Media Prima interim group chairman on May 21, 2018 and as group chairman on June 12, 2018. He currently sits on the boards of CIMB Group Holdings Bhd, CIMB Bank Bhd, SIRIM Bhd and Prokhas Sdn Bhd.

Meanwhile, Syed Hussian is currently the group chairman of Western Digital Sdn Bhd. He is also serving on the board of Universiti Malaysia Sarawak.
