KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 15): Swift Haulage Bhd on Monday (Aug 15) inked a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Volvo Malaysia Sdn Bhd to introduce electric trucks in Malaysia.

The logistics service provider said the partnership is aimed at promoting electric trucks in Malaysia to support the country's sustainability goals anchored in commercial electric trucks, human capital and skills development, electric lorry expertise, and technology exchange.

"This collaboration is also expected to develop our human capital competency on electric vehicles and further support our sustainable environmental targets to reduce overall carbon emissions going forward," the group said in a filing with Bursa Malaysia.

Volvo provides heavy-duty trucks under the Volvo umbrella, mainly made up of Volvo FM, Volvo FMX and the Volvo FH in various specifications.

Swift Haulage's share price closed down two sen or 3.45% to close at 56 sen on Monday, giving the group a market capitalisation of RM498.29 million. The counter has dropped 41% from 95 sen since the beginning of the year.
