KUALA LUMPUR: Sunway Property, the property arm of Sunway Group, has bagged two awards for its excellence in the real estate industry.

Its township Sunway City KL was the only township honoured at the Malaysia Green Building Council’s (MGBC) “Top 10 Green Buildings of the Decade Awards” during a ceremony held on Saturday, in conjunction with MGBC’s 10th anniversary.

Sunway Property also won its ninth consecutive award at the BCI Asia Awards last Friday, the group said in a statement yesterday.

“We are humbled by these prestigious awards, and we will continue to intensify our efforts to build our integrated townships, led by Sunway City into ‘blueprints’ for future smart sustainable cities in Malaysia and the Asean region, in alignment to the UN 17 Sustainable Development Goals,” Sunway Bhd’s property development division managing director Sarena Cheah said.

The “Top 10 Green Buildings of the Decade Awards” was presented by International Trade and Industry Deputy Minister Dr Ong Kian Ming and MGBC organising chairman Michael Ching Chee Hoong.

Sunway City KL incorporates award-winning world-class components and is now habitat to 140 species of flora and fauna and is now an economic driver, welcoming 42 million visitations yearly and is home to 200,000 people.

The township is also Malaysia’s first sustainable township as certified by the Green Building Index, as well as the winner of two FIABCI Prix d’Excellence and three FIABCI Malaysia awards. It is also the nation’s first low-carbon city as awarded by the Malaysian Institute of Planners.
