KUALA LUMPUR: The Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (Suhakam) today launched its strategic framework for a national plan on business and human rights.

The framework based on the United Nations guiding principles and guidance for national action plans on business and human rights is aimed at laying the foundation for the creation of the said action plan that is suited to Malaysia.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, Datuk Paul Low Seng Kuan said, "There has been much effort by the government to promote corporate social responsibility (CSR) ... and we would like to see CSR being embraced by more corporations and businesses."

He added that the government welcomed the Suhakam's strategic framework, calling it "just the beginning".

"We now need to take on the more challenging task of getting all stakeholders fully onboard in developing a national action plan and ensuring it will be implemented with consistency," he said.
