KUALA LUMPUR (June 17): Straits Inter Logistics Bhd shares rose 4.44% at mid-morning today after the firm said its unit is to acquire a 14-year-old oil tanker for US$4.7 million (RM19.56 million).

At 10.12am, Straits Inter Logistics rose 1 sen to 23.5 sen with 1.19 million shares traded.

The acquisition of the tanker is at a discount to its current market value and is seen to enlarge Straits Inter Logistics' asset base.

The unit will pay for the vessel in 61 monthly cash instalments from June 14 onwards, with the unit placing a US$900,000 cash deposit as part of the acquisition.
