KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 10): The grassroots are not concerned over the RM2.6 billion donation or 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB), so Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin should stop harping on it, a Penang Umno delegate said today.

Datuk Musa Sheikh Fadzir warned Muhyiddin to stop his "road shows" criticising Umno president Datuk Seri Najib Razak, and urged the deputy president to only speak publicly on matters that could strengthen the party.

He also asked former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to stop speaking negatively about Umno, adding that every insult he hurled at Najib was an insult to its members.

"To the deputy president, no more road shows on 1MDB. If you want to go on road shows, just talk about how we can strengthen the party," said Musa when debating at the party general assembly in PWTC, Kuala Lumpur today.

"Tun (Dr Mahathir), we urge you to stop your road shows. Stop talking bad about Umno. Just be quiet. If you're so angry, just keep quiet."

"Because we love you, Tun, we don't want to humiliate you. If a mosquito bit you, we would destroy it. But you must be fair, Tun. When you insult the president, you insult us.

"Don't do this, Tun. It's not like we agreed to the IPP (independent power producers) during your time."

Musa said no one should question the source of the RM2.6 billion donation since the grassroots needed the money to continue operating and relied on the president to provide the funds.

He added that even the opposition relied on unidentified donors, and no one made a fuss about it.

"When the president looks for money, just don't question it. He in turn takes care of us," said Musa, to cheers from the hall.

He said every party president had their own style of raising funds to keep the party machinery going.

He added that the 1MDB issue was beyond any layman's comprehension, and it was Umno that was turning it into a big deal.

"The people in the villages don't understand what 1MDB is. We are the ones fanning the flames. They don't know anything about the RM2.6 billion donation. We are the ones shooting arrows at ourselves.

"They're not asking anything about those matters. I asked one auntie, do you know 1MDB? She said 'I don't know'."

Musa said he wanted the party president, the deputy and the vice-presidents to reconcile and hug one another after Najib completed his winding-up speech at the assembly.

"To the deputy president, we love him. Help the president out. Don't do this anymore. If you do it again and action is taken against you, don't blame us."

He said the top leadership should focus on uniting the party and making it stronger instead of bickering among themselves.

He also reminded them that it was the grassroots who had put them into positions of power in Umno as well as the government.

Musa ended his speech by leading the delegates to pledge their loyalty to Najib.
