Scientex Bhd (-ve)

SHARES of plastic packaging manufacturer and property developer Scientex (Fundamental: 1.7/3, Valuation: 2.4/3) rose 2.7% to close at RM7.50 yesterday, after the company announced that it is acquiring a 100% stake in Mondi Ipoh Sdn Bhd (MISB) for RM58 million.

MISB manufactures downstream specialty consumer packaging films and film-based components, including form-fill-seal bags. The acquisition will boost Scientex’s annual consumer packaging production capacity by 28% to 76,800 tonnes.

For 9MFYJuly2015, Scientex posted a net profit of RM109.3 million, up 9.7%, despite recognition of a forex loss of RM18.0 million due to its USD-denominated borrowings. The increase was mainly due to higher progress billings from property development projects. Property development segment accounted for 28% of its revenue and 70% of its operating profit. Unbilled sales stood at RM599.1 million at end-April.

The stock trades at a trailing 12-month P/E of 10.4 times and 1.93 times book. Dividends totalled 21 sen in FY14, giving a yield of 2.9%.
