MMC Corp Bhd (-ve)
SHARES in MMC Corp Bhd (fundamental: 0.6/3, valuation: 1.4/3), which triggered our momentum algorithm yesterday for the first time this year, closed four sen or 1.6% higher at RM2.54.

It saw 6.2 million shares traded, surpassing its 200-day average volume of 849,632 shares.

MMC is the flagship of tycoon Tan Sri Syed Mokhtar Al-Bukhary, who controls some 51.76% of the group. MMC is currently in the midst of buying a 49% equity stake in port operator Penang Port Sdn Bhd for RM200 million.

The Edge Malaysia weekly reported in its March 6 to 12 issue that Penang Port, — wholly owned by Seaport Terminal (Johor) Sdn Bhd, which counts Syed Mokhtar as one of its controlling shareholders — has currently issued a tender notice for the construction of a liquid bulk terminal at the port.

According to the report, several local and international companies have expressed interest in building the terminal.

At the current share price, MMC is trading at 0.8 times its book value.
