Berjaya Media Bhd (-ve)

SHARES in Berjaya Media Bhd (fundamental: 0.95/3, valuation: 0.3/3), which triggered our proprietary momentum algorithm yesterday, rose 3.5 sen or 8.75% to 43.5 sen with 134,000 shares traded versus the counter’s 200-day average volume of 10,765.5 shares.

The group, which publishes daily newspaper The Sun, saw its net loss narrow to RM4.51 million in the third quarter ended Jan 31, 2017 versus a net loss of RM11.44 million a year ago. Quarterly revenue declined by 11.7% to RM10.72 million, from RM12.14 million, mainly due to lower advertising income reported by its principal operating subsidiary, Sun Media Corp Sdn Bhd.

In the nine months ended Jan 31, 2017, the group posted a net loss of RM7.12 million against a net loss of RM12.39 million in preceding year’s corresponding period, as revenue fell 6.4% to RM33.68 million, from RM35.98 million.

The stock is currently trading at 2.18 times its book value and has a market capitalisation of RM102.26 million based on its latest traded price.
