TRADING of shares in Berjaya Food Bhd (BFood) (fundamental: 0.2/3, valuation: 1.2/3) triggered our momentum algorithm last Friday for the first time this year.

The counter closed up nine sen or 5.96% at RM1.60, with 3.29 million shares traded versus its 200-day average volume of 279,549.5 shares. The group’s market capitalisation stood at RM580.65 million.

BFood is principally engaged in the development and operations of the Kenny Rogers Roasters (KRR) chain of restaurants in Malaysia and Java Island and Bali in Indonesia. It also holds a 50% equity interest in Berjaya Starbucks Coffee Co, as well as a 100% equity interest in Singapore-based Jollibean Foods Pte Ltd.

BFood posted a net profit of RM8.98 million in its third quarter of financial year 2019 ended Jan 31, 2019, compared to a net loss of RM10.85 million a year ago, on higher profit contributions from its Starbucks operations and improved performance from its KRR outlets.
