KUALA LUMPUR (July 13): The Land Public Transport Commission has suspended Qistna Express Sdn Bhd’s operator’s license, comprising 26 bus permits, for one month due to non-compliance with the commission's mandatory safety requirements.

The suspension followed an accident involving one of Qistina's buses last Sunday (July 10). In a statement today, the commission also known Suruhanjaya Pengangkutan Awam Darat (SPAD), said the bus crash happened at KM265.8 of the North South Expressway, near the Menora Tunnel.

According to SPAD chief executive officer Mohd Azharuddin Mat Sah, the suspension is due to non-compliance with SPADs's mandatory safety requirements, based on its audit of Qistna's fleet yesterday.

Mohd Azharuddin said the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research's investigation on the crash was ongoing.

“SPAD would like to reiterate that it views compliance of mandatory safety requirements by express buses, seriously. The commission believes that the move to suspend Qistna Express will serve as a strict reminder to the industry to ensure that they adhere to the SPAD Industrial Code of Practice (ICOP) at all times, as public safety is a foremost priority.

"SPAD assures the public that the commission will continue to work together with other law enforcement agencies, such as Polis Diraja Malaysia and the Road Transport Department, to ensure public transport companies operate only roadworthy vehicles and [that] their drivers observe all traffic and road safety rules," he said.
