IN sunny Spain for a holiday? Couple it with a wellness programme and get a great whole in one. The ultimate escape in the heart of busting and busy Barcelona, The Spa at Mandarin Oriental has created well-being programmes that go beyond classic treatments and massages by offering guests an unrivalled holistic experience that produces physical and emotional equilibrium.

Conceived as a sophisticated urban oasis, Mandarin Oriental Barcelona’s spa is a luxurious sanctuary located right in the heart of this beautiful city. With a conviction that surroundings have a profound influence on one’s state of mind, celebrated designer Patricia Urquiola has conceived the spa as an intimate and minimalist space, markedly modern in style with Oriental touches.

A soothing environment to enjoy holistic treatments, the spa features a total of eight treatment rooms, complete with individual spa vitality pools and futons for traditional Thai massages, and four luxurious treatment rooms, each with its own aromatherapy experience shower. The spa’s facilities include an expansive 12m indoor swimming pool, heat and water areas, as well as a fully serviced state-of-the-art fitness centre.

The five-day retreat includes accommodation in a deluxe room, personalised fitness and wellness consultation, lifestyle and nutrition advice, a once-daily fitness activity with a personal coach, which can include yoga, Pilates or discovering the city while power walking or jogging, unlimited use of the spa and a five-day cleansing diet with all three meals served at the BistrEau restaurant.

With the detox-themed retreat (€3,805 [RM15,789]), you can enjoy a once-daily massage, two detoxifying body wraps, two contouring and firming body treatments, and a Chi Nei Tsang abdominal massage. For the anti-ageing retreat (€3,605), the formula changes gears a little — enjoy a Linda Meredith haute couture facial, two 75-minute body and face treatments for toning, a collagen facial and a pedicure massage.

Situated right in Barcelona’s Passeig de Gràcia, this exclusive and intimate edition of the world-famous hotel franchise offers a few other carefully considered gastronomic offerings. Aside from BistrEau, Moments provides neo-traditional Catalan cuisine under the auspices of multi-Michelin starred chef Carme Ruscalleda, while the Terrat offers great views of the city alongside delectable eats. If a dose of action after dark is part of your self-prescribed retreat, the Banker’s Bar has an extensive cocktail menu and a live music programme.

Mandarin Oriental Barcelona’s wellness retreats are available until Dec 3. For further information or reservations, call + (34) 93 151 88 88.
