KUALA LUMPUR (July 2): There are suggestions from Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) grassroots for the party's top posts to be uncontested at the party's third annual general meeting (AGM) later in the year, said deputy president Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir.

The top three party leaders are Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad (chairman), Home Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin (president) and Mukhriz himself.

"At least for the chairman's post... I think it is a given that we still want him (Dr Mahathir) as our chairman," said Mukhriz, who confirmed that he intends to defend his deputy presidency.

"Of course, if there is anyone who is nominated to these positions, they will be allowed to contest," Mukhriz, who is also Kedah menteri besar, told reporters at parliament lobby.

PPBM can expect the suggestion to be raised during the party's extraordinary general meeting (EGM) later this month.

The EGM on July 20 will also discuss possible amendments in the party constitution, which is largely similar to Umno's constitution.

"Among things to discuss is whether we will have 'one member one vote' at the Supreme Council. Currently, we have the delegate system [where division delegates and not members vote for the Supreme Council members].

"We currently have the 'one member one vote' system at branch and division levels," said Mukhriz.
