KUALA LUMPUR: Just hours after posting the first article on his new blog yesterday, former prime minister Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi set social media abuzz.

Many on Twitter were posting and sharing his article or the link to the blog, www.paklah.net

Some tweeted positively about his article titled “Erti Kemerdekaan dan Perpaduan” (The Meaning of Independence and Unity).

Bintulu.org tweeted: “He is credited for opening up [a floodgate] — a little bit of space for ‘Malaysians to voice their varied opinions’.”

Jangok (@AkhimullahM) wrote: “Keterbukaan Pak Lah terhadap kebebasan media dilihat lebih baik berbanding Tun M. Apakah dasar keterbukaan itu juga mejatuhkan beliau?” (Pak Lah’s openness towards media freedom is seen as better than Tun M’s [Abdullah’s predecessor Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad]. Was his policy of openness also the cause of his downfall?)

Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin Abu Bakar, who is Abdullah’s son-in-law, tweeted: “Nice Malaysia Day message. #HariMalaysia51.”
