KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 15): SKP Resources Bhd is temporarily closing its Johor Bahru operations from Jan 16 till Jan 29, to facilitate Covid-19 screening of its employees after five of them tested positive last week.

This temporary closure is expected to result in a capacity loss of 3% of its annual output, SKP said in a stock exchange filing.

“However, our other production facilities which are located at other cities continue to operate as normal. This measure has been well communicated to our customers and we can reschedule our production plan to meet customers' demand after the resumption of operation,” the integrated plastics manufacturer said.

The group updated on Jan 8 that five of its employees of its wholly-owned subsidiary, Syarikat Sin Kwang Plastic Industries Bhd, had contracted the virus and immediately identified their close contacts for swab tests as well.

“In the meantime, we will work closely with the Ministry of Health (MOH) during this shutdown period. SKP will continue to adhere to the standard operating procedures as directed by the MOH in order to ensure the necessary safeguards are in place to prevent the spread of Covid-19 and to ensure that the employees are provided with a safe and healthy working environment.

"We will continue to carry out disinfection and sanitisation measures at all our facilities and workers hostels. In addition, the group has notified all employees, suppliers and customers about the temporary factory shut down,” it added.

Shares of SKP ended five sen or 2.36% higher at RM2.17 today, giving the group a market capitalisation of RM2.71 billion.
