KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 22): Eight new Covid-19 clusters were detected today, of which six are linked to workplaces in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Johor and Perak, the Health Ministry said.

Three of the clusters were identified at construction sites in Kuala Lumpur, namely Bina Residen in Lembah Pantai with 294 cases, Bina Kasih in Kepong with 43 cases, and Sinar View, also in Kepong, with 32 cases.

In Selangor, the Bukit Naga cluster was detected in Klang with 58 cases, said Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

Elsewhere, the Tampoi Jaya cluster in Johor Bahru had 32 cases, and the Rapat cluster involving Kinta and Perak Tengah in Perak had seven cases.

Two other clusters that are not linked to workplaces are the Pasar Baru cluster, which spans Klang and Kuala Langat in Selangor with 309 cases, and the Paginatan cluster involving Papar, Ranau and Kota Belud in Sabah with 47 cases.

To date, 459 clusters have been reported by the ministry.

Of these, 206 clusters have been declared ended after no new cases were reported for 28 days.

They included three clusters which came to an end today, namely the Summer cluster in Penang, the Kota Kecil cluster in Johor and the Tenaga cluster in Labuan.

Malaysia today logged 2,062 new Covid-19 cases, with Selangor and Kuala Lumpur accounting for 74% or 1,518 of the cases.

This pushed Malaysia's total cases to 97,389, compared with just 65,697 as at end-November.
