KUALA LUMPUR (July 17): Six Malaysian property projects were award recipients at this year’s International Real Estate Federation (FIABCI) World Prix d’Excellence Awards.

Of the six, five developments were named the Gold Award winners, namely Plaza Arkadia by Perdana ParkCity under the Mixed-use Development Category, KL Eco City by S P Setia under the Office Category, Mangala Resort & Spa by Franky Land under the Resort Category, Melawati Mall by Sime Darby Property and CapitaLand under the Retail Category, and Gamuda City in Vietnam by Gamuda Land under the Masterplan Category.

The sixth winner, receiving the Silver Award, was Pangsapuri Kasturi by Johor Land under the Affordable Housing category.

The results were broadcasted online from Paris, France, via the FIABCI’s Facebook page yesterday. The prize presentation ceremony and gala dinner, which were supposed to be held in Manila, the Philippines, on May 31, were cancelled due to the Covid-19 situation. They have been postponed to be held in Paris on May 27, 2021.

FIABCI Malaysia Chapter president Michael Geh said property developments in the country had received international recognition because of the high product quality and attractive architecture with more than a touch of green.

“Malaysian developers have raised the bar in developing properties which have consistently fared very well in international property competitions,” he said in a statement.

According to Geh, all world winners were themselves adjudged the best developments in their own country before proceeding to compete at the international level, and the FIABCI competition process evaluates the overall marks scored and not how large an investment was made on the development.

“I invite local developers who are passionate about their boutique projects to submit for the coming FIABCI Malaysia Property Award. Many boutique developments have won and went on to achieve international recognition,” he said.

This year’s awards saw a record 33 winners comprising 16 World Gold and 17 World Silver winners from Hungary, the Republic of Panama, Netherlands, Taiwan, Indonesia, Singapore, Vietnam and Malaysia.
