SINGAPORE (Nov 21): Singapore Airlines’ regional airline SilkAir has launched its new flight to Fuzhou, China, the eighth Chinese city in its route network after Changsha, Chengdu, Chongqing, Kunming, Shenzhen, Wuhan and Xiamen.

SilkAir’s route network now spans 52 destinations in 14 countries.

According to a release on Monday, the inaugural flight, MI990, departed at 10.35am from Singapore Changi Airport and arrived at Fuzhou Changle International Airport at 3.05pm. The return flight, MI989, is set to take off at 4.15pm and expected to land in Singapore at 9pm.

The four weekly flights to Fuzhou are scheduled on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, with same-day return. The services will be operated with Boeing 737-800 aircraft, featuring both business and economy class cabins.

Fuzhou is the capital of Fujian Province and is also known as the “city of banyans”. It is well known for its forest parks, historic temples, ancient-style architecture and attractions like West Lake Park, Three Lanes and Seven Alleys, Pingtan Island and Xichan Temple.

Shares in Singapore Airlines are trading 2 cents lower at S$3.43.
