SINGAPORE (Dec 15): Singapore Airlines says SIA Group passenger load factor (PLF) fell 1.8 percentage points to 77.2% in Nov 2016, compared to the same period last year.

SIA Group passenger airlines' passenger carriage (measured in revenue passenger kilometres) increased by 2.7% compared to last year, trailing growth in capacity (measured in available seat kilometres) which increased by 5.0%.

Singapore Airlines' PLF fell 1.9 percentage points to 76.9%. Passenger carriage fell 1.4% y-o-y, while capacity grew 1.0% y-o-y.

“The competitive landscape remains challenging (for Singapore Airlines) and promotional activities will continue in relevant markets,” SIA said in an SGX filing on Thursday.

SilkAir’s PLF fell 0.7 percentage points to 70.6%. Passenger carriage increased by 9.3% y-o-y, while capacity increased by 10.4% y-o-y.

SilkAir had introduced new services to Fuzhou, China in November, SIA said.

Scoot’s systemwide passenger carriage grew by 39.2% y-o-y as capacity increased by 47.1% on the back of the number of aircraft increasing from nine to twelve. Consequently, PLF decreased by 4.5 percentage points to 79.1%.

Tigerair’s systemwide passenger carriage increased by 0.8% y-o-y, on the back of a 0.2% reduction in capacity. Consequently, PLF improved by 0.8 percentage points to 83.9%.

“Growth in demand for many destinations (for Tigerair) was encouraging,” SIA said.

Meanwhile, Cargo load factor (CLF) remained unchanged at 66.4% as the increase in cargo traffic (measured in freight-tonne-kilometres) matched capacity expansion of 3.3%.

Shares of Singapore Airlines closed 3 Singaporean cents lower at S$9.73 on Thursday.
