KOTA KINABALU (July 29): Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal had a three-hour audience with Sabah Governor Tun Juhar Mahiruddin tonight.

After he left the meeting which was also attended by the State Attorney-General Brenndon Keith Soh, Shafie's aide informed reporters that there will be a press conference at the Sabah State Administrative Centre here at 10am tomorrow.

Malaysiakini reported that the meeting at the Sabah State Palace here, which began at about 8pm, included discussions over the possibility of a snap State election.

The meeting at the State Palace was held hours after former Chief Minister Tan Sri Musa Aman announced that he had obtained a slim majority from State Assemblymen to form a new Sabah State Government.

"We need to see what is the response from the Governor first," a source told Malaysiakini.

The source, who is close to Shafie, said this when asked if the Chief Minister was at the palace to seek the State Assembly's dissolution which would then pave the way for a snap State election.

This evening, Musa, who is also the Sungai Sibuga State Assemblyman, told reporters that he had secured enough statutory declarations (SDs) from State Assemblymen supporting him.

The Umno leader, however, did not state the numbers. Musa also claimed that he had been instructed by the Governor to submit the SDs.

However, as of midnight, it was unclear if Musa had managed to obtain an audience with Juhar, Malaysiakini reported.

The Sabah State Legislative Assembly has 65 representatives, including five who are nominated. The simple majority is, therefore, 33 seats.

The current State Government has 45 seats while the Opposition bloc has 20.

Musa is the sole UMNO representative in the State Assembly.
