KUALA LUMPUR: The 3rd Selangor International Business Summit 2019 (SIBS 2019), from Oct 10 to 13 this year, is expected to attract over 30,000 trade visitors.

The summit, which will be held at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre here, will give visitors a glimpse of a diverse range of international products and services it will host over 700 booths from over 40 countries, according to its host, Invest Selangor Bhd, in a statement yesterday.

The summit will have four components — Selangor International Expo 2019 and the Selangor R&D and Innovation Expo that will run throughout the summit; Selangor-Asean Business Conference 2019 (Oct 10 to 11); and the Selangor Smart City and Digital Economy Convention (Oct 11 to 13).

“The SIBS is an annual international summit that caters specifically to positioning the state as a prominent catalyst in Southeast Asia,” said Selangor State Executive Councillor for Investment, Industry & Commerce and Small & Medium Enterprise Datuk Teng Chang Khim at a press briefing on the summit yesterday.

“In the current situation, Selangor continues to play its role as the most competitive gateway to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) and the global trading hub — where local and international businesses can build and strengthen their presence in Asean. Furthermore, SIBS provides the avenue as not only the gateway to the Malaysian market but, more importantly, continues to serve as a springboard to tap the broader Asean market, home to over 600 million consumers and over 200 of the world’s largest companies,” Teng said.

Invest Selangor said SIBS has been tagged as the largest statewide trade summit and aims to provide a platform for Malaysian and international firms to forge trade relations and exchange knowledge in business and product innovations.

“With encouraging support from local and international companies, it is evident more firms worldwide are recognising the value of investing in SIBS 2019, and this [is] supported by the fact that a higher number of renowned companies are interested in collaborating with SIBS this year.

“SIBS 2019 is also set to offer a broader range of opportunities and exposure,” Invest Selangor said. The event is endorsed by Malaysia External Trade Development Corp, with Malaysia Airlines Bhd as its official airline partner.
