(June 12): Selangor Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali said he is confident that the state's water restructuring exercise will be resolved in two weeks time.

He said after a meeting with Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili yesterday, both Selangor and Putrajaya managed to reach a consensus over issues pertaining to the agreement which included the takeover of land and asset.

"We had a good meeting. Both parties agree to seal the deal in the nearest time," he said in Shah Alam this morning.

He said apart from finalising the restructuring of water services, several other issues in dispute were resolved.

On 26,000km-long network of water pipes that led to the deadlock of the deal, Azmin said the state government will give its approval once the developer had fulfilled the terms and conditions set.

On Puncak Niaga Holdings Bhd (PNHB)'s threat to rescind the agreement with the Selangor-owned entity, Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd, Azmin said the issue is between the water concession and Putrajaya.

"The matter will have to be addressed by the relevant minister. The Energy, Green Technology and Water Ministry will have to look at their demands," he said.

PNHB executive chairman and managing director Tan Sri Rozali Ismail, in filing to Bursa Malaysia, said PNHB hoped there would be no further extension for Air Selangor to fulfill the conditions in the sales and purchase agreement (SPA).

"The latest stop date being the fifth extension of time of the SPA is today.

"PNHB will be left with no choice but to invoke its legal rights to rescind the SPA with Air Selangor," he was quoted as saying.

The prolonged uncertainty in the consolidation/restructuring of the Selangor water industry has affected the service level that the consumers deserved, he added.
