(July 14): Selangor PAS is hoping that a new mechanism can be put in place to ensure smooth administration of the the state, after the Shura Council, considered the party's highest decision-making body, decided to revoke its political cooperation with DAP.

Its central committee member, Sallehen Mukhyi, said for the time being there was no reason for the party's state assemblymen to quit the state government.

He said the party's central committee had to decide on a mechanism and strategies to resolve the situation because the state must remain under by the three opposition parties, PAS, DAP and PKR.

"In this context, we will leave the decision to PAS central committee to come up with the suitable mechanism. For the time being, there is no problem between us and everything is running as usual," he told The Malaysian Insider.

Sallehen also said the party also depended on PKR and Selangor Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali to provide the avenue to function and continue the relationship in the name of the "state government".

"Now it all depends on PKR and the 'comfort level' the party is willing to give us. At the same time, PKR can continue working with the DAP as usual," he said.

The assemblyman for Sabak added that DAP should also come up with ways the three parties could work together in Selangor since it was the first to declare that the Pakatan Rakyat pact's demise.

"It is not surprising that DAP decided that Pakatan is no more. So, it is only fitting that the party also figure out ways to cooperate without the pact,"

"As for PAS, we will discuss on our own," he said.

On Selangor Umno liaison Datuk Seri Noh Omar's challenge that all PAS state assemblymen to step down, Sallehen said such a move was not necessary because the grassroots support was still strong.

He accused the former Umno minister of trying to take advantage of the current impasse in Selangor.

Selangor PAS Youth chief Sharhan Humaizi Halim said the movement was taking a wait and see stance on the matter and would wait for the decision from the party's central committee or the state government.

"We believe that whatever decision made will be for the benefit the party and its Islamic cause." he said.

Last week, PAS Shura Council secretary Datuk Dr Nik Muhammad Zawawi Salleh announced the decision to terminate “tahaluf siyasi” (political cooperation) with DAP.

Cooperation with PKR however would continue.

In early June, PAS's annual assembly adopted without debate a resolution to cut ties with DAP, but its leaders insisted that the motion was not a final decision by the party as this would be made by the Council and the central executive committee.

Soon after the motion was passed, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng requested that all PAS members resign from their Penang government posts.

The motion was the brainchild of its Muslim scholars' wing, the Dewan Ulama, in response to DAP’s decision in April to cut ties with party president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang, who is also an ulama. – The Malaysian Insider
