KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 26): The third Selangor International Business Summit (SIBS) will be held on Oct 10 until Oct 13 this year and is expected to attract more than 30,000 trade visitors.

The four-day summit will be held at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre here, and will give visitors a glimpse into a diverse range of international products and services, as the summit will be hosting over 700 booths from over 40 countries, according to its host, Invest Selangor, in a statement today.

The summit will comprise four components, namely the Selangor International Expo 2019 and the Selangor R&D and Innovation Expo that will run throughout the summit; the Selangor-Asean Business Conference 2019 that will take place on Oct 10 and 11; and the Selangor Smart City and Digital Economy Convention that is scheduled for Oct 11 until Oct 13.

“The Selangor International Business Summit is an annual international summit that caters specifically toward positioning the state as a prominent catalyst in the South East Asian region," said Selangor state executive councillor for investment industry & commerce and small & medium enterprise, Datuk Teng Chang Khim, at a press briefing about the summit today.

“In the current situation, Selangor continues to play its role as the most competitive Gateway to ASEAN and the Global Trading Hub — where local and international businesses can build and strengthen their presence in ASEAN.

"Furthermore, SIBS provides the avenue as not only the gateway into the Malaysian market, but more importantly, continues to serve as a springboard to tap into the broader Asean market, home for over 600 million consumers and more than 200 of the world’s largest companies," Teng said.

Invest Selangor Bhd said SIBS has been tagged as the largest state-wide trade summit and aims at providing a platform for Malaysian and international companies to forge trade relations and to exchange knowledge in business and product innovation.

"With encouraging support from local and international companies, it is evident [that] more companies across the globe are recognising the value of investing in Selangor International Business Summit, and this [is] supported by the fact [that] a higher number of renowned companies [are] interested to collaborate with SIBS this year. SIBS 2019 is also set to offer a broader range of opportunities and exposure," Invest Selangor said.

The event is endorsed by Malaysia External Development Corporation (MATRADE), with Malaysia Airlines Bhd as its official airline partner.
