KUALA LUMPUR (May 1): The Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mavcom) has confirmed the appointment of Datuk Seri Saripuddin Kasim as its executive chairman, replacing Dr Nungsari Ahmad Radhi who had resigned from the post on April 10.

This follows Transport Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong's posting on Facebook today announcing Saripuddin's appointment effective May 4. Saripuddin is no stranger to Mavcom, having served as a commissioner from March 1, 2016 to Jan 6, 2019, while serving in his capacity as the secretary-general of the Ministry of Transport.

"Datuk Seri Saripuddin is a consummate professional civil servant who has served the government for nearly four decades, most recently as secretary-general of the ministry of federal territories. He was also the former secretary-general for the ministries of transport, human resources and domestic trade, cooperatives and consumerism," said Wee.

"With wide knowledge and experience across several transport sectors, Datuk Seri Saripuddin has served on the boards of several port authorities, including Port Klang, Penang, Melaka, Labuan and Bintulu, as well as for Prasarana Bhd, MyHSR Corp Sdn Bhd, and Railway Assets Corp," he added.

According to Mavcom, Nungsari was appointed as the executive chairman on July 1, 2018, prior to which he had served as a commissioner since Mavcom’s establishment on March 1, 2016.

"The commissioners, management and staff of Mavcom wish to record our utmost gratitude to Nungsari for his integrity, leadership and wisdom throughout his tenure with Mavcom, and for his services to the aviation industry and country," said Mavcom in a separate statement today.
