KOTA KINABALU (Jan 18): The Sabah State government has assured the Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia (IRBM) of its support in ensuring that tax collection will be administered efficiently and effectively to prevent revenue leakages.
Its Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal said IRBM tax collection was important as it contributes to the Government's revenue for use in the development and implementation of programmes which could benefit the people.
"We will give our full support to the IRBM because if there is no understanding, it will be difficult to plug leakages in tax administration and collection," he said at a friendly meeting with IRMB here today which was also attended by IRMB chief executive officer Datuk Seri Sabin Samitah.
According to Mohd Shafie, it was important for the State government to establish close cooperation with the IRBM as an agency under the Federal government.
He said although the administration of the State had been his priority in developing Sabah, cooperation with the Federal government was equally important.
"I am confident that by maintaining this balance we will be on track to developed nation status and the welfare of the people will be protected,” he said.
