KUALA LUMPUR: All operations at Resorts World Genting  (RWG) in Genting Highlands will be temporarily closed from today to March 31, following the Movement Control Order announced by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin on Monday to contain the Covid-19 outbreak.

According to its website, Genting Malaysia Bhd said the closure encompasses its hotel facilities, food and beverage outlets, casino, Skytropolis Indoor Theme Park, entertainment facilities, attractions, malls and retail outlets at RWG.

The gaming company said operations will resume on April 1. The last time all operations including the casino at RWG were closed was during the late group founder Tan Sri Lim Goh Tong’s funeral in 2007, for half a day.

“All reservations made for stay at our hotels during this period will be cancelled. Guests may seek a refund or change their reservation dates.

“The same applies for reservations made at Resorts World Awana, Resorts World Kijal and Resorts World Langkawi,” said Genting Malaysia.

It added that guests who purchased tickets for any attractions or shows at the resort will also be refunded.

Essential resort-based services such as security, bomba, utilities and clinics will remain operational during this period.

Separately, Genting Malaysia announced the temporary closure of its Resorts World Casino New York City (RWCNYC) in the US due to Covid-19.

It did not specify when the casino will reopen.

The group said it decided to temporarily close RWCNYC after careful deliberations with New York State officials and Genting Malaysia’s partners at the New York Hotel Trades Council.

“The gaming floor is now under temporary closure. The parking garage and all food and beverage outlets are closed. All promotions, special events and free play offers have been postponed or cancelled.

“We will continue to closely monitor information from the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) regarding Covid-19 and follow additional guidance from New York State,” Genting Malaysia said.
