KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 30): Rompin Member of Parliament (MP) Datuk Seri Hasan Arifin has been appointed the new chairman of national utility company Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) effective Oct 1.

Hasan, 68, replaces Padang Terap MP Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid who resigned as the group’s chairman on Aug 29 following his appointment as the rural development minister.

In a filing with Bursa Malaysia on Thursday, TNB said Hasan, former Pahang deputy menteri besar (1995-1999), is also currently the chairman of Pengurusan Aset Air Bhd. 

Notably, he was also the chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) from 2015 to 2018, and was on the board of directors of UDA Holdings Bhd from 2010 to 2015.

He was also the chairman of Lembaga Pembangunan Wilayah Pahang Tenggara (DARA) from 1995 to 1998.

Hasan holds a Degree in Economics from Universiti Malaya.

Shares in TNB ended seven sen or 0.72% lower at RM9.68 on Thursday, giving it a market value of RM55.43 billion.
