PETALING JAYA (July 19): Rolls-Royce Motor Cars targets the young and affluent in Malaysia as it presented the award-winning Dawn, the new four-seater, super-luxury Drophead, for the first time in the country.

Regional sales manager of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, David Kim, told the media during the unveiling of the Rolls-Royce Dawn that the car is designed to bring more sex appeal to the brand and attract younger customers.

“In fact, Dawn has so far been the sexiest Rolls-Royce ever built,” Kim said.

Asia Pacific regional director, Paul Harris said, “Dawn is redefining luxury motoring by offering an involvement like no other — being superbly relaxing to drive and making its occupants feel incredibly special. It is the pinnacle luxury good for Malaysia — rare, bespoke and hand-crafted to the unmistakable Rolls-Royce hallmark standard. Its design evokes glamour and offers a modern, social experience.

“Dawn’s bold and contemporary design heralds a new chapter in Rolls-Royce’s illustrious history. In many markets, we have seen interest from a broad segment of customers who are new to the brand, as well as more established customers.”

Datuk Michael Ong, managing director of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, added: “Through the years, we have seen the Rolls-Royce brand transform with a younger generation of entrepreneurs aspiring to own a Rolls-Royce. Ghost and Wraith reset perceptions of what a modern Rolls-Royce should look like. We are proud to be partner with Rolls-Royce, as we embark on this new journey.”

Kim explained that Dawn features 80% of unique body panels and even new tyres, as special fitment for the model.

“Rolls-Royce’s engineers have paid great attention to Dawn’s roof, which delivers the silence of a Wraith when up, and operates in just over 20 seconds at a cruising speed of up to 50km/hr. Working with a fabric roof configuration, the goal was to make the quietest convertible car in the world today.

“This quest for silence applied to all aspects of the roof’s engineering and by extension, the new motor car. Now etched into automotive parlance — the smooth and noiseless mechanism of Dawn’s roof is called the ‘Silent Ballet’.” Kim said.

The price for the Rolls-Royce Dawn has yet to be finalized, but Kim said it is around the range of RM4 million in Malaysia. With Dawn’s launching, Rolls-Royce is targeting Malaysia’s anticipated growth in the luxury goods sector.
