KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 29): The government is allocating RM2 billion in hiring incentive under JanaKerja for those who have been out of work, said Finance Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Aziz.

This comprises an incentive of 20% of the employee’s salary in the first six months, and 30% of salary in the next six months — covering those with monthly salary above RM1,500, he said in his 2022 Budget speech.

Another RM1.1 billion is allocated for training and upskilling programmes, including a place and training with job placement attached.

These are part of the RM4.8 billion allocated for JanaKerja, targeting to secure employment for 600,000 people.

In supporting career and talent development, the government has also called for employers to at least match its RM900 allowance provided for students undergoing industry training.

Double tax relief is also proposed for companies which provide scholarships for students in higher learning institutions in all courses.

The government has also allocated RM4.8 billion for business funding and capacity expansion through bodies like TEKUN and Perbadanan Usahawan Nasional Bhd.

To spur high value-add industries, RM80 million is allocated through the Trade Ministry to train 20,000 employees supporting cluster industries like maintenance repair and operations, electrical and electronic, and chemicals.

Another RM50 million is allocated to improve vocational expertise for 5,000 employees in the field of oil and gas welding, industrial automation, and mechatronics.
