KUALA LUMPUR: Ringgit banknotes bearing the signature of Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) Governor Datuk Muhammad Ibrahim will go into circulation in stages from today, beginning with the first batch of RM50 banknotes.

These banknotes are identical to the present banknotes series currently in circulation, BNM said in a statement.

“Banknotes bearing the signature of former governors are still legal tender and will continue to circulate with the new banknotes,” the central bank added.

Muhammad took over as the eighth governor of BNM in May this year, replacing former governor Tan Sri Dr Zeti Akhtar Aziz, who served the central bank from 2000 to 2016.
