KUALA LUMPUR (April 22): RHB Banking Group has been providing packed meals for doctors, nurses and other healthcare workers at eight hospitals across the country.

In a statement today, the bank said throughout the Movement Control Order (MCO) period, more than 20,000 packed meals and snacks have been delivered for the benefit of about 2,000 frontliners, including doctors, nurses and other health workers, who are working on different shifts at hospitals that are attending to Covid-19 patients.

RHB said it has been delivering 450 packed meals daily to six hospitals — Sungai Buloh Hospital, Serdang Hospital, Ampang Hospital, Selayang Hospital, Putrajaya Hospital and Kuala Lumpur Hospital — since March 23 and had further increased this to eight hospitals in the third phase of the MCO with the inclusion of Sultanah Aminah Hospital Johor Bahru and Sarawak General Hospital.

Total packed meals delivered daily has also increased to 600, which will continue until the end of the MCO period on April 28.

RHB said the deliveries also include snacks such as energy bars and drinks, which are also in short supply at the hospitals.

RHB group managing director Datuk Khairussaleh Ramli said apart from ensuring that the healthcare frontliners are being given proper meals daily, the bank is also able to support small catering businesses and their suppliers, enabling them to continue earning income during the MCO period.

He said that during Ramadan, RHB will include other food items such as bubur lambuk and dates in the deliveries to frontliners.

“We feel it is important to keep their morale high, and hope that these ‘must-have’ Ramadan delicacies would keep their spirits high as the fight against the spread of Covid-19 continues,” he said.

Khairussaleh said RHB has thus far pledged a total of RM3 million to assist in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.

He said this includes RM1 million to the Ministry of Health for the purpose of ensuring the continuous supply of personal protective equipment and another RM1 million to MERCY Malaysia through the Association of Banks in Malaysia for various initiatives to assist against the spread of Covid-19.

“The balance of RM1 million will be used for other relief initiatives that the group will be carrying out in assisting those impacted by the pandemic,” he said.
