KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 29): RHB Banking Group has appointed Dr Chong Han Hwee as group chief risk officer (CRO) effective Sept 28, 2020.

In a statement today, RHB said Chong will be replacing Patrick Ho, who will be retiring as CRO on Sept 30, 2020.

RHB said Chong has more than 17 years of experience in risk management practices.

Prior to joining RHB, he was a partner in EY Malaysia, where he led the Financial Services Risk Management function, managing a team of 60 consultants.

RHB said Chong was responsible for setting up EY’s risk management practice, which has grown over the years to become the largest risk consulting practice in Malaysia.

It said his exposure to risk management practices in Australia, Asia and the Middle East has enabled him to acquire the expertise in combining sophisticated quantitative skills and analytical instincts to design and implement initiatives to deliver significant business value.

Chong graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce in Economics and Finance from Curtin University of Technology, Australia and earned a Doctor of Philosophy in Economics from Curtin University (formerly known as Curtin University of Technology), Australia.

RHB Banking Group managing director Datuk Khairussaleh Ramli said Chong is a strong addition to the bank’s group management team.

“He will oversee the group’s overall risk management functions including the effective management of group-wide risk management across Credit, Technology, Operations, Market and Shariah.

“As a specialist in risk management, Dr Chong will also be responsible for enhancing the standards of risk management across all areas in the group,” he said.

At the midday break today, RHB added 0.44% or 2 sen to RM4.55, valuing it at RM18.25 billion.
