Collection-pays-attention_FD_Live-it_14july15_theedgemarkets

TOD'S Autumn/Winter 2015-2016 collection epitomises the brand’s philosophy of subtlety and attention to detail as it introduces new designs as well as an innovative take on the classics. The collection comprises of the brand’s latest designs in ready-to-wear pieces, bags, shoes and other accessories, for both men and women.

“Tod’s keeps styles staple this season as it is all about finishing instead,” Flora Lee, public relations manager of TOD’S Hong Kong explains as she presented the men’s and women’s collection that were presented by four models at the media preview that took place last week. Leather inserts and jacquards are seen throughout the womenswear pieces and can be spotted on the jackets and skirts. As for men, the material used for the bags comprises of laser-cut details while the ready-to-wear pieces included fur collars and grisaille textures.

The women’s collection explores the sartorial and sporty with monochrome forming a huge portion of the colour palette followed by earth tones and the occasional bright hues like red or turquoise. One of the themes is the rugged biker style that can be seen in both the ready-to-wear pieces as well as footwear. This theme is observed through the various interpretations of the classic leather jacket — be it as a cropped jacket, overcoat or trench.

The biker theme also follows through in the assortment of lace-ups, ankle and Beatle boots that cleverly combined with other elements — wooden heels, graphics, rubber soles and gommino pebbling. For a fresh twist on a classic, the moccasin has been embellished with metal vamps and hand-threaded leather while the gommino sees fringes, threading, enamel studs and decorative graphics on it.

The Wave bag takes centre stage in the array of bags crafted for the autumn/winter collection and comes in a variety of colours, material and size. Take your pick among the white leather one with the signature gomminos on each side, the smaller, suede one in turquoise and an elongated red one, all of which cater to varying demands of customers and functionality. Also present in this collection is the saddle-like iconic cape bag and the saddlery-styled Flower bag with graphic effect fringes.

The theme of sophisticated sporting style follows through with the men’s collection that combines design and functionality, well-suited for the urban man. The palette consists of muted and natural tones while some timeless pieces are reimagined through the play of materials and details.

For example, the signature models such as the Driving Icons — Gommino, City Gommino and City Spyder — are reintroduced with buckles and prints, whereas the versatile sneaker is given a touch of contemporary luxury through a combination of leather and fabric coupled with a unique metal edging wrapped around the heel. The footwear selection is bound to leave one spoilt for choice with the backpack.

In the bags section, designers at Tod’s explore cross-functional bags with an emphasis on the bags being ultra-lightweight, allowing them to be conveniently packed in your luggage to carry along on your travels yet sturdy enough to maintain their shape once unpacked, thanks to the proper piping that gives structure to the bags.

As always, leather features prominently, however, the autumn/winter collection not only fuses print and leatherwork but also marries the artisanal world of saddlery — which the brand is indeed no stranger to — with modern innovation of designs. This time around the designers have chosen to embody Italian luxury by incorporating threading as well as a medley of graphics and geometrical patterns for a more contemporary approach resulting in pieces that could be on their way to being a timeless classic of the future.
