(Nov 16): PKR secretary-general Rafizi Ramli today filed an urgent motion to discuss the alleged sale of 1Malaysia Development Bhd's (1MDB) energy arm Edra Energy to a foreign firm.

The Pandan MP said the motion was filed under Standing Order 18 and could come up for mention on Wednesday.

He said he had obtained evidence that Putrajaya intended to allow a foreign firm to fully undertake 1MDB's stake in Edra.

"This goes against the policy that foreign firms' stake in energy companies would be limited to 49% to protect national interests," he said in a statement.

Rafizi said the proof was a letter written by the Energy Commission to the Treasury regarding the proposed sale.

1MDB is selling off its stakes in Edra in a bid to reduce its debts after having racked up more than RM42 billion debt in the six years since its inception.

Rafizi added that the letter by the Energy Commission was written on September 11. – The Malaysian Insider
