(Oct 21): Putrajaya has revived attempts to suspend DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang after he failed to apologise and retract his remarks against speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said re-submitted the notice of the motion at 6pm, just a couple of hours after retracting it.

Earlier, deputy speaker Datuk Ismail Mohamed Said looked for Lim after the debate on the smoke crisis concluded, with Parliament set to sit for another hour.

But with Lim having left the House, the government placed the motion to be debated tomorrow morning.

The notice bore the same words as the earlier notice which was retracted on the insistence of opposition lawmakers when it was about to be debated.

Pandikar had earlier given Lim an hour to decide whether he wanted to apologise "unconditionally" for his remarks or to stick by them.

Lim, when met by reporters shortly before leaving the House, insisted that he had "explained" his remarks and refused to elaborate further.

The veteran lawmaker allegedly accused Pandikar of abusing his power by halting investigations into 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) by the Public Accounts Committee (PAC).

The notice said that Lim had insulted both the speaker and the House and seeks to suspend him for six months.

Earlier, Pakatan MPs insisted that Lim should be allowed to explain his remarks before the motion is debated, resulting in it being retracted. – The Malaysian Insider
