(April 22): Putrajaya will not go ahead with the Padang Besar Hospital project in Perlis citing economic situation, said Perlis Health and Rural Development Committee chairman, Jafperi Othman.

Speaking to Bernama, he said the Economic Planning Unit in the Prime Minister's Department was forced to make the decision despite the state asking that the project be given priority.

"This project is important for Perlis residents in the long term. That is why we want it to proceeed," Jafperi said in Kangar yesterday.

The hospital project is part of Barisan Nasional's promise during the 13th general election in 2013.

Meanwhile, Jafperi said the contruction of a new building besides the Padang Besar District Health Clinic will be completed and can cater to 200 patients. – The Malaysian Insider
